InvisalignⓇ

When it comes to needing orthodontic treatment for misaligned teeth or wanting it to enhance your smile, some may have reservations when thinking about needing traditional metal braces. Although traditional braces are popular among children and even adults, some patients at 3rd South Dental would like a more subtle way to correct their smile. Wanting to do everything we can for our Salt Lake City, Utah patients, we offer Invisalign as an orthodontic treatment option.

Many have heard about Invisalign but are unsure how the treatment works and what to expect. Invisalign straightens teeth and could be an excellent option for you.

Treatment Process

The Invisalign treatment is a 10-12 month orthodontic plan that utilizes clear retainer sets to straighten patients' teeth. To receive these retainer sets, you will need to meet with Dr. Andrew Theurer or Dr. Cameron Call to determine your exact treatment plan so that we can take molds of your teeth to make the retainers.

These clear retainers are custom-made to fit your teeth precisely by forming dental plastic over your teeth molds. The series of retainer sets are made to eventually put your teeth into place at the end of treatment. Each set will slightly push your teeth into the position for the next set that continues progress. You will be given a new set every 2-4 weeks throughout the entire 10-12 month period.

Other than receiving a straight smile in the most subtle way possible, other benefits of Invisalign include:

More Comfortable:

  • Traditional braces are more uncomfortable than removable aligners. The harsh edges of conventional metal brackets dig and slash into your lips and cheeks. They can leave painful sores that take a long time to cure. You can try adding wax to the outside of your brackets. However, it usually peels off after a short time. Removable aligners are manufactured to fit your teeth perfectly. They have smooth edges constructed of high-quality resin so that no jagged metal will get stuck in your mouth.

Maintains Oral Hygiene:

  • You may take off the aligners and go about your regular dental regimen with Invisalign. Brushing and flossing may all be done without any additional equipment. You can also brush and clean the interior of your aligner to ensure that no food or germs accumulate. Cleaning the inside of your aligner container is also a good idea so that bacteria does not build up when you remove your aligners to eat, drink, or brush your teeth.

Non-Invasive:

  • Dentists can take a thorough scan of your teeth using 3D scanning technology instead of using x-rays, impressions, or any other intrusive procedure. These scans are then converted into 3D printouts, which professionals use to manufacture your custom aligners.

Fewer Visits:

  • You won't need to visit the dentist as often with invisible aligners, and your visits will be a lot shorter and less intrusive. You'll need to come back every four to six weeks, but in the meantime, you'll have a new pair of aligners to switch every two weeks. You won't require more dental work because the aligners have already been planned and constructed to fix your teeth.
