Crowns and Bridges
Many of our procedures that restore tooth health can also improve your smile's appearance. We can help restore teeth after severe damage with crowns and bridges, replacing one or many of them at once.
Don't hesitate to contact us if you are in Salt Lake City, Utah, and would like to learn more about the dental crowns and bridges we offer at 3rd South Dental.
What is a Dental Crown?
Crowns in the dental world are artificial tooth caps placed on a portion of a natural tooth that needs to be replaced because of disease or damage. Crowns shelter a natural tooth and restore its functionality and appearance.
We sculpt a dental crown from three different dental materials: metal alloy, composite resin, or porcelain. After taking your tooth impressions, we model each crown to fit and resemble the tooth's anatomy that it will cover. We match the size, shape, and shade of that tooth, as well as the rest of your teeth.
We recommend dental crowns in many different dental restorations, including:
- Covering dental implants.
- After a severe cavity has affected the majority of the tooth.
- Replacing a portion of a tooth to improve its shape.
- Covering a break or a crack in a tooth.
What is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is a restorative dentistry procedure to replace one or more teeth. Like the dental crown, the bridges cover natural teeth. They consist of at least three crowns fixed together, covering any gaps left behind by missing teeth. Like crowns, they are made using high-grade dental materials.
What is the Dental Crown Placement Procedure?
We will place a permanent crown within three visits to our office. Treatment times and approaches can vary from patient to patient, so that you might require more or less treatment time depending on your dental situation.
When we place a dental crown or bridge, there are two ways to anchor them:
- Fixing the crown or bridge onto one or more anchor teeth. In the case of a bridge, the teeth on either side of a gap serve as the anchor teeth.
- Fixing the crown or bridge onto one or more dental implants.
What Are the Benefits of Crowns and Bridges?
There are many benefits to dental crowns and bridges. Still, the most significant is that they are a permanent restoration and almost entirely resemble a natural tooth or a natural set of teeth. You likely won't be able to tell the difference between a crown or bridge and a natural tooth when talking, smiling, and eating. And you can brush and floss around a crown the same way you can around a natural tooth. Since a bridge consists of three crowns in a row, you can't floss between them. However, you can clean around a bridge with a toothbrush and floss.
